Win a Converted Vintage Book by Open Books

The winner is Carol EL!
This Giveaway is now Closed.

I came across this little etsy store by accident. Maybe accidental isn't the word to use because I was drawn in by curiosity. Most times, when I look at etsy, I look for handmade bags, jewelry, hair accessories, and cards. Not books. So when I first looked at what this store sold, I was curious. It was a little difficult to grasp on what they were actually doing with these vintage books until I got my own.

At Open Books, they turn vintage books into "modern day treausres." These old books have been conveted into new ones, one that you can record your thoughts, drawings, notes, or anything you want and intermingle it with the words of the old. And writing about it doesn't do what they do at Open Books justice.

This is what I encountered when I got my book.

The book is very well bound, the cover solid like a hardbound book.

The old pages of the books are kept intact and intermingled with the new blank pages. This is where you will let you new thoughts fill the book and see it mingle with old thoughts of yesteryears. It is this very concept that makes these books so unique and special. The pages are sturdy and of high quality. This is great if you, like me, carry a notebook around everywhere you go.

Bridget and Shelly are the creators of these wonderful books and the owners of Open Books. I had a lovely opportunity to converse with them to find out how Open Books came about.

"We have been friends for 20 years and have shared a love for vintage books. We started gathering up our friends and families books that were collecting dust and decided to recycle them into something new! We are both huge recycling fans who enjoy writing, drawing, telling stories, laughing, scrapbooking. Our journals and sketchbooks are all unique and we love the character of vintage books! Our favorite part is salvaging some of the pages from the original book and nestling them in between the blank pages that will be filled! We've had a great response on Etsy (which we are obsessed with, we buy all our gifts for our loved ones there!) and from the stores that carry our books. We adore hearing stories of why people make their choices when they pick their Open Book. Whether the choice is inspired by nostalgia, travel, humor, hobbies, cooking, or friendship, it always makes our day!!"

There are so many to choose from at Open Books and each book may bring out a different memory for you. There are so many to choose from.

Like the Illustrated Library of Nature:

Or if you'd like a trip down memory lane back to your childhood, Something Special may help with that:

I would choose The Barking Cat. I am a cat lover but I also love midcentury illustration. And my 5 year old daughter's first beloved toy was a plastic praying mantis that she used to carry around, so the story page with the little girl reading the insect book and asking about the mantis reminds me of her...

I like PrairyErth (a deep map) because the maps give the sense of a journey which is probably where the word "journal" came from, at least in part. ;)

The Green Kingdom has such lovely illustrations and photos, poetic and inspiring....and so relevant, with the environmental issues and concerns.

Green life on the planet is so precious, to see it flourishing from years past would be majestic, and thought-provoking now.

What a wonderful and fantastic idea these converted vintage book journals are!!! I immediately fell in LOVE with the Springtime for Jeanne-Marie Lined Journal! It reminds me of my favorite storybook, "Heidi"! Plus, I also collect sheep-themed things, and that little lamb is sooo precious!! Thank you for the contest!

Ohhh....It's hard to pick just one! My college age daughter LOVED, LOVED Care Bears when she was little so I'd love to get her that. But she & I also went to Russia together when she played there with an orchestra so I'd love the Russia book. Plus I also LOVE the Charlie Brown book. I'd have a hard time picking between those three! But I'll force myself if I win!!

Thanks!
